Macroalgae have a high potential to advance sustainability through a broad range of applications, from greener chemicals and solvents, novel pharmaceuticals to sustainable biofuels, biofeedstocks and bioplastics. Information on efficient biorefinery of seaweeds, combining underlying chemistry and methodology with industry experience will be addressed. Beginning with a review of the opportunities for seaweed biorefinery and green extraction technologies and the varied components and properties of macroalgae. A range of important applications are then discussed.
