Stefan Kraan, who earned his PhD in phylogenetics and aquaculture of edible seaweeds from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2001, has extensive expertise in seaweed research and development. He managed the Irish Seaweed Industry Organisation and established the Irish Seaweed Centre. Subsequently, he founded Ocean Harvest Technology Ltd and co-founded The Seaweed Company in 2018, which integrates the seaweed value chain across multiple countries. Stefan has served as President of the International Seaweed Association and currently presides over the International Society for Applied Phycology. He also coaches Indonesian seaweed companies to enhance their exports to Europe.
