Gwang Hoon Kim is a cell biologist specialising in cell signalling, sexual differentiation, cell-cell recognition, and the stress responses of algal cells. His expertise encompasses seaweed aquaculture and algal breeding, utilising mutation breeding alongside algal proteomics and genomics. He has contributed to over 160 peer-reviewed scientific papers and his laboratory has been designated a National Research Laboratory (NRL) in Korea. Kim has previously served as director of the Institute of Biotechnology and dean of the College of Natural Sciences at Kongju National University.
