Prof. Phaik Eem Lim is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences at the University of Malaya. A founding member and current secretary of the Consortium of Southeast Asian Seaweed Taxonomy (SEASTax), she has published over 150 academic works. Since the 1990s, her primary research has focused on algae, addressing challenges in the carrageenan industry, particularly the genetic diversity of eucheumatoid cultivars. For the past decade, she has been leading studies in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region to combat these issues.
