Michael Borowitzka is an acclaimed academic and leader in the field of phycology, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Phycology since 2000 and as a Fellow of Jane Franklin Hall at Hobart Murdoch University since 2014. He held the position of Emeritus Professor from March 2014 and previously led the Algae R & D Center from 1982 until February 2014. His leadership roles include President and Vice-President of the International Phycological Society from 2014 to 2015 and 2012 to 2013, respectively. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Botany from the University of New England.
