Maria Barbosa is currently a Professor and Director of AlgaePARC, where she develops research strategies and leads the Microalgal Biotechnology group, focusing on bridging fundamental research and commercial applications. Her previous experience includes program manager for Algal and Microbial Products at Food and Biobased Research in the Netherlands, and program manager at the European Molecular Biology Organisation in Germany. She also held a postdoctoral position in bioengineering at ETH Zurich. Barbosa earned her PhD in Bioprocess Engineering from Wageningen University in 2003 and holds an MSc in Food Engineering from Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
