Emeritus Professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Avigad Vonshak earned his Ph.D. there in 1980 and conducted post-doctoral research at Michigan State University's Plant Research Laboratory. He joined the faculty of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, contributing to the Algal Biotechnology lab, and established the Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies, serving as its first director from 1998 to 2003.
