Microalgae, including cyanobacteria, are key commercial sources of high-value compounds like β-carotene, Astaxanthin, DHA, phycobilins, and cosmetic extracts. They are increasingly used in cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals, and functional foods. Renewed interest in microalgae stems partly from efforts to develop biofuels. This paper reviews existing and potential high-value products and examines the challenges and lessons in their commercialization.
