This presentation explores dark fermentation as a high-volume, cost-effective method for producing astaxanthin. It covers the pigment's properties, market value, and challenges in traditional algal production, such as inefficiencies and contamination. Fermentation’s benefits are then highlighted, followed by an overview of Kuehnle AgroSystems (KAS) and their work in fermentative Haematococcus cultivation. The current status of KAS’s advancements and their collaboration with production partner Bioréa are also discussed.
